Following our update in August I am pleased to confirm that the early stages of the Course Recovery work has started with the team taking full advantage of the ideal weather conditions to begin the first part of overseeding fairways. 
 
The seed will not begin to take effect for at least another two weeks.  The team will continue this process over the next couple of weeks and during this time our fairway overseeding programme will see over two tonnes of hard wearing fescue seed applied. From Monday 21^st September a dressing of organic material to aid the germination rate will be applied which will also help the seedlings survive,
 
From this date we will introduce the mandatory use of fairway mats, for all play and additional posts and ropes to protect the treated areas. As the winter continues we may have to take further measures and will advise Members of these as required.
 
The local rule to be used is Model Local Rule E-12 for the general area cut to fairway height or less but, fairway mats must not be used on tees, for competition rounds as it breaks rule 6.2b(2&3). 
 
Following the overseeding programme we will progressively select key hot spot areas, where turf loss is at its worst, for detailed recovery, with further overseeding, turfing and dressing as required.
 
Two priority areas are the steps and paths between the first green and second tees as well as the steps and walk off areas of the 4^th tees. These areas may be structurally improved at the same time as turf cover is replaced and traffic routes altered.
 
It is important that all Members play our part in the success of the recovery plan by using mats, following temporary walkways to protect affected areas and reducing wear and tear. Whilst committing to this individually I would ask that Members also remind their playing partners, where necessary of the need to conform to these arrangements.
 
Those of us who can carry our clubs should do so at every opportunity whilst those of us who require buggies should drive them in the semi-rough whenever possible.
 
Standard fairway mats will be available at the 1^st tee for use, however numbers will be limited and superior mats will be available for purchase at cost price from the Pro-Shop. Standard mats will need to be returned at the end of the round.
 
We have identified the Spurk fairway mat as the best available at a cost price of £20 and encourage our Members to take advantage of this.
