"FORE" Get Me Not Golf

On 3 September we celebrated our first anniversary of hosting “FORE” Get Me Not Golf, here at Sheringham. How time flies!

We were once again blessed with good weather, although there was a typically brisk Sheringham breeze out on the course.

We started our celebration with a team putting competition, involving all our participants and volunteers, pictured together outside the Clubhouse. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it, and a close contest resulted in a one shot victory for Bob’s team of (left to right) Jackie, Ewan, Bob and Ken.
The golfers also spent time on the driving range and par 3 course before reconvening for drinks and cake. All thoroughly enjoyable.

We are so proud to be a part of the growing FGMNG family, which now has almost 30 Clubs either running sessions, or in the process of setting them up; such encouraging progress from last September when we became only the third Club to host FGMNG.

Thank you again to our wonderful volunteers - we couldn’t do it without you.

We still have space for one or two more people to join our monthly sessions. So, if you know someone who is living with dementia and would enjoy a couple of hours once a month playing a bit of golf in friendly and supportive company, please ask them to contact me by email in the first instance via
foregetmenotgolf@sheringhamgolfclub.co.uk

40's Weekend

Sheringham Golf Club will once again be working with our neighbours, North Norfolk Railway, to provide extra parking for their ‘Steam Back to the 40’s’ Weekend on September 19th & 20th.

We still require a few more volunteers to help on Saturday 19th. Please put your name up on the sign up sheet on the noticeboard in the Hallway.

Hopefully will be able to earn some ££ for both the Captain’s & Lady Captain’s Charities.

Please also note the Practice Ground will close Friday 18th September around 12 noon and will not re-open untl Monday 21st September.
Bereavement - Funeral Details

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mr Terry Simmons who sadly passed away on Tuesday 25th August, aged 76.

Terry joined the Club in 1996 and also worked at the club doing cleaning and maintenance for many years.

In more recent years Terry was a social member and often came up for a coffee with his long time playing partners.

The funeral will be held at Cromer Crematorium on Friday, September 18th, 2026, at 12.30pm, followed by sharing memories and raising a glass at the Tyneside, Sheringham.

Ladies Exchange Day

After bypassing accidents on the way to King’s Lynn (3 in total!), we finally arrived amid sunshine and NO wind!

On arrival we were greeted by a magnificent breakfast table with pastries, cereals, fruits and yoghurt which set us up nicely for the day ahead.

Many of us found the greens quite testing but they were in excellent condition, just much slower than ours! (King’s Lynn also had a few problems playing our greens, but for the opposite reason).  The course played as well as could be expected considering our dry summer, and we all enjoyed playing it.

After some late cancellations due to injuries, 35 ladies played, best 2 s/f scores to count.  The day finished with an excellent 2 course meal and, I’m  pleased to say, an uneventful drive home!

Team match in first place was  Belinda Davidson-Gay, Lesley Goodman and Julie Little with 83 points.
Second, Sarah Bowler, Hilary Cargill and Claire Bottom on countback with 82 points.
Third, Lorna Tuttle, Fiona Smith and Anita Bhawaney 82 points.
Nearest pin Janice Fulford and Jackie Boddy, nearest the line Sally Thirtle and longest drive Ali Rix.

Well done, Ladies!
The European Senior Ladies’ Team Championship

The European Senior Ladies’ Team Championship Quarter Final was played in Bulgaria yesterday (3rd September) where England beat Spain 3.5 to 1.5.  They are now through to the Semi Finals when they will be playing Ireland today.

Well done Tracie Williamson and the England team and good luck in the semi final.
Silver & Osborn Cups

The closing date for entry in to the Silver and Osborn Cups will be Wednesday 9th September at 23.59.  Please note that members will not be able to enter this event after the draw has been done.  Entry fees will be taken from members card when the draw has been completed.
Rule of the Week

In a matchplay event, Andy is 120 yards from the hole and Ed is 110 yards from the hole on the 9th.
Ed plays his shot before Andy and holes it for a 2.

However, Andy claims that he shouild have played first and that Ed must replay his shot after he has played his second shot.  Ed is furious and calls Andy a cheat(and possibly something worse!). Ed tells Andy that he will make a claim to the Committee when the match finishes.

Was Andy within his rights?
